At Penningtons we put our trust in expert coffee importers to source our coffee beans from coffee producing countries around the world. With decades of experience, our coffee importers pride themselves on ethical provenance sourcing, ensuring the coffee we roast is obtained in a responsible and sustainable way. Increasingly, coffee sourcing is done not by large umbrella organisations like Fair Trade, rather by smaller groups with direct contact with specific coffee farms. By cutting out expensive organisation overheads this results in coffee farmers getting a better deal, often more than three times what they would otherwise receive for their crops.
Globally, there are three main coffee growing regions – Central and South America, Africa and the Middle East and Southeast Asia. These coffee regions are all located along the equatorial zone between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn known as the ‘Coffee Belt’. Despite growing within a similar latitudinal perimeter, coffee grown in these regions has vastly different and distinct regional flavours due to differences in soil, weather, altitude and processing methods. So, when you hear those puzzling coffee tasting terms referring to the flavour, acidity, body and finish of coffee, know that this usually relates to the countries where coffee is grown.
At the top of the ‘Coffee Belt’, South and Central America is the largest coffee producer by region, encompassing countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras and Peru. With superior conditions for growing exceptional coffee with incredibly aromatic flavours, coffee harvested here is well-balanced, medium-bodied and mild.
We at Penningtons pride ourselves on being coffee connoisseurs and we love the flavours provided by this coffee region. Each variety of coffee that we supply has been specially chosen to ensure that your coffee is the best you can buy. Whether you prefer to buy ground coffee or coffee beans, we have that covered. Each of our coffees, be it Brazil coffee, Peru coffee, Honduras coffee, Guatemala coffee or our Central and South America coffee blends, can be ground to your specific requirements. So, if its coarse ground coffee for a cafetière or fine ground coffee for your stove top coffee maker, our coffee is suited to every coffee brewing method.
